I have worked with an organisation called Disability North on a number of occasions. They are a free Independent Living Service which promotes social inclusion, independence and choice for disabled and older people in the North East of England and Cumbria. They were event organisers for the International Day of Disabled People 2015 held at the Sage Gateshead on 3rd December 2015.
The event featured speakers, artists and stall holders. It managed to balance debate about very serious issues and amazing performances from a range of acts. I was so impressed by bands such as Au:Kestra (www.aukestra.com) and Community Music Spark, with the highlight being Sarah with her own beautiful electric piano compositions.
For me, it was a day of learning, being entertained and taking photographs. Looking forward to 2016’s International Day of Disabled People.
