Having just returned from holiday, I wondered if your own camera played a big or any part of your holiday. For me, it was ensuring my camera’s batteries were charged, checking memory cards, cleaning lenses and generally worrying about my equipment. I took my second camera, my Nikon D7100 and a 35mm lens. They are relatively small but not exactly light. With the arrival of the new mirrorless cameras, especially the excellent Fuji and Sony ones (c£1k), which are petite, beautiful and produce lovely images, I am sorely tempted, but my gadget budget is already in deficit.
If you are not very experienced in using a camera, have you ever used anything other than automatic mode? As I may have previously mentioned, a good place to start is in Aperture Mode. Try low (wide open) fstops i.e. f2.2 or as low as your camera will go. I am sure that you will be pleased with the effect it has on blurring distracting backgrounds and keeping the subject nice and sharp. And above all, practice, practice, practice….
